Watch the short film ´blood knot` premiere!

The following short film ´blood knot` premiered in front of a private audience on July 4th, 2020 in Graz, Austria, marking the 50th birthday of the producer, Timothy Mark. In the context of global events in June-August of 2020, the film references two performance tours of New Zealand by Choreographer and Dancer, Elbert Watson and Sculptor, Performance Artist, Timothy Mark in 2007 and 2009.

During those tours, Watson and Mark interpreted Works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Athol Fugard, and Alan Paton’s utilizing T. Mark´s marble and limestone sculptures as catalysts for the performance narrative.

Photographer Alan Brydon documented both the 2007 and 2009 tours.  His work is central to the narrative of this short film. Bridging the series of photographs is a brief excerpt with T. Mark in a 2018 performance interpreting wooden stage sculpture in the Museum of Science in Graz, Austria merging with Elbert Watson´s performance in Norfolk, Virginia featured in the second half of the film. Ebert Watson choreographed his work specifically for this film, and performed it in Norfolk, Virginia in late June, 2020.

…Sculpture stage elements and archisculpture inspire interdisciplinary performance (spoken word, music, dance, theater, literature) addressing current topics in science, evolution and sustainability.

“… all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”  Martin Luther King Jr.
